Tasting Notes: Inky deep dark ruby in color, with aromas of cocoa, black cherry, deep dark roses and ripe purple plums. On the palate there are rich flavors of cherries and black raspberries that lead into an elegant finish with layers of rich texture and incredible length. The vineyards for the Reserve Cabernet are of unparalleled excellence. Each is an outstanding example of its respective viticultural district’s flavors. This flavor “typicity” helps define the black fruit component that is so important to our Reserve Cabernet. From Calistoga, at the base of Mt St Helena, is our own Lynch Family Vineyard, where we have young clones of Cabernet (#169 & #4). In St Helena, on the west side of town, our Vineyard Manager, Doug Wight, grows some of the finest fruit in the valley on Taplin and Lewelling Vineyards. Both of these deep, loamy-soiled vineyards provide incredible fruit. The combination of these vineyards’ attributes produce a wine of incredible intensity, yet wonderful elegance.
