Hossfeld Coliseum Red Blend 2009

2009 provided the perfect conditions to produce this prodigious Napa Valley Bordeaux style Red Blend. The shallow volcanic soils of this mountainside vineyard coupled with a long growing season allowed us premium hang time to create this beauty. The wine is dark crimson with a tinge of ruby in the glass due to ample natural acidity and is followed by aromas of crushed dark cherries, briary dark fruits, violets and red tea. Unabashed in its delivery, all of the above notes are focused into the mid palate where the power and elegance of this wine really shine. Luscious red and dark fruits intermixed with sweet dark chocolate and distinct minerality interplay with supple tannin and concentration. The grandeur of this wine shows off with a mile long finish and some serious staying power. A short decant is recommended if you pop one open now and look for this wine to hit a peak in 6-10 years and drink well for up to 15.
