Winemaker’s Notes: The vineyards included in the appellation Montagny are spread throughout a number of villages in the Côte Chalonnaise, namely Montagny, Buxy, Saint-Vallerin and Jully-les-Buxy. The high quality of the grapes results from the vines being planted on hill sides with excellent exposure to the sun and limestone bedrock soil. The vineyard of La Grande Roche is quite high up on the hillsides, catching plenty of sunshine which aids the great concentration of flavors in the grapes. Maison Louis Latour is required to apply for 1er cru status every year to ensure that La Grande Roche is consisently on par with the rigorous qualitative standards. This wine has aromas of white flowers such as acacia. It is rich and fat and holds up impressively in the mouth. The Montagny 1er Cru « La Grande Roche » has a clean light yellow colour. On the nose it will seduce you with its intense aromas of acacia and honey. In the mouth this wine is honest, fresh and powerful. With a nice length and with subtle notes of apricot, this excellent wine is tasting delicious now either as an apéritif or as an accompaniment to a fish dish with sauce.
