This Chardonnay comes from vines planted in 1986 & 1988, from cuttings of the old Wente field selection, first planted in the appellation in 1946. The 2001/2002 winter was about average in rainfall and temperature. The spring weather was relatively mild. The vines set and matured 2.4 tons / acre. The wine produced from this vintage is reminiscent of the 2000 Chardonnay: good concentration, pronounced minerality, supple texture, a variety of fruit flavors and aromas – peach, nectarine, apricot, apple with a long finish. Wines from this appellation benefit from several years of bottle aging although they are very enjoyable in their youth. Chardonnay from this appellation will age gracefully for 7-10 years or more. Food pairings -- Some of the foods we like to serve this wine with are: snapper, vera cruz, fresh scallops, grilled seabass, swordfish, pork roast, sautéed chicken or spaghetti carbonara.
